NOAH'S ARK NATURAL ANIMAL SHELTER
Our Story
Founded in 1995 by Raymund Wee, the sanctuary moved to a 10-acre site in Johor, Malaysia in 2000. This free roaming and no-kill sanctuary is home to 700 dogs, 300 cats, horses and many other rescued animals.
Our Vision
To help bring about a time when there are less homeless animals on our streets.
The Problem
As the number of stray animals increase, thousands of dogs and cats are being destroyed every year. No shelter is large enough to accommodate all of them in a humane way. These animals are sentient beings, not items we can throw away.
Due to the negative impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, our current practice of sheltering animals has become increasingly unsustainable. We plan to work towards the redundancy of the shelter in the coming years.
“Warehousing” of rescued street animals will not solve the stray over-population problem.
The Solution
Sterilisation is the most humane and effective method to get to the root cause of the stray animal over-population problem. We need an emotional commitment to our cause and invite you to partner with us to realise this vision.
Our Mission
To reduce the stray animal population using spay and neuter.
To create awareness, inform and educate pet owners and stray caregivers about the benefits of spay and neuter.
To educate the public on the importance of responsible pet ownership.
To work consistently and effectively with the authorities and the community to create an even greater impact for the benefit of all stray animals.
NANAS is a non-profit and non-governmental organisation.
Spay & Neuter Programmes
Noah’s Ark Animal Birth Control Clinics in Johor Bahru, Muar and Melaka work with local municipal councils to offer low cost spay and neuter services at monthly programmes.
Pet owners are encouraged to sterilise their animals at subsidised rates, who would otherwise not do so due to their financial circumstances.
Caregivers of stray dogs and cats could apply for assistance if they cannot afford the fees.
Mission Help @ Noah's Ark
This programme offers low cost veterinary fees for sick and injured animals belonging to pet owners or stray caregivers requiring financial assistance.
Sanctuary Operations
We honour our commitment to look after the existing animals while we work towards the redundancy of the shelter.
The biggest cost is food for the remaining 700 dogs and 300 cats.
Funds are also needed for palliative care and special diets for terminally ill animals, medical supplies, veterinary services and operational costs.
Fostering & Adoption Programme
Controlling the numbers at the shelter by reducing the intake of animals is not enough, we need a pro-active strategy to re-home many puppies and kittens dumped at the shelter gates during the pandemic.
Fostering helps an animal to get used to a home environment and socialises them with other animals and people. It makes it much easier for the fostered dog or cat to be re-homed.
Fosterers are needed for this programme.
Our Projects
Recognising the enormity of the challenges, we are dedicated to making a lasting impact through our campaigns and programmes. While our efforts are driven by our organisation’s singular focus, we spread a wider net by investing in a variety of progressive strategies.
